Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
"We", "us" and "aaliSoft" mean the developer of Islamic Toolkit. This policy applies to the Islamic Toolkit app on Android. You can contact us at [email protected] about anything in this policy.
2. What the app accesses, and what happens to it
| Information | Why the app uses it | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Location (precise or approximate), only if you allow it | To work out the direction and distance to the Kaaba, and to calculate prayer times and today's recommendations for where you are. It is used while you use the app, not in the background. | Used on your device. The last known location is saved on your device so times can be shown without a new fix. We never receive it and the app does not send it anywhere. If you do not allow location, the features that need it are limited. |
| Compass sensor | To show your phone's heading on the Qibla screen. It is read only while that screen is open. | Not stored, not sent. |
| Your choices and your saved items: language, school of thought, style, font and text size, prayer method and settings, calendar day adjustment, favourites, tasbeeh and qaza counters, and your reading position | To remember how you use the app. | Saved only in the app's private storage on your device. We cannot see it. It is removed when you clear the app's data or uninstall the app. |
| Notifications, only if you allow them | To remind you at prayer time. Reminders are scheduled on your device. Exact alarms are used, where you allow them, so reminders arrive on time, and the schedule is restored after you restart the phone. The phone may vibrate for the tasbeeh counter and the compass. | On your device only. There is no push service and no server. |
| Ad information | To show a banner ad. | Handled by Google AdMob. See section 3. |
You can also open this policy in the app, in Settings → About → Privacy policy.
The app has no sign-in, no payments and no user content that leaves your phone. We do not use analytics or crash-reporting services. If that ever changes, we will update this policy first.
3. Ads and Google AdMob
The app is free and shows one small banner ad, supplied by Google AdMob through the Google Mobile Ads SDK. We do not show interstitial or full-screen ads. To serve and measure ads, protect against fraud and abuse, and improve its services, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects, and shares with Google, the following information from your device, as Google describes in its data disclosure for the SDK:
- IP address, which Google may use to estimate the general location of your device;
- User product interactions, such as app launches and taps;
- Diagnostic information about the performance of the app and the SDK, such as launch time and hang rate;
- Device and account identifiers, such as the Android advertising ID and the app set ID.
The ad request needs an internet connection; this is the only reason the app uses the internet. We do not receive this information from Google. We only see aggregated advertising reports that do not identify you. How Google uses it is explained in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and in Google's Privacy Policy.
Your choices about ads.
- Where the law requires your consent for ads, including in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the app shows Google's consent message before it requests any ad. If you do not give consent where it is required, the app does not request ads. Where that message applies, you can review or change your choice at any time in Settings → About → Privacy choices in the app.
- On your phone you can reset your advertising ID or turn off ads personalisation in Settings → Google → Ads (the exact path varies by device), and manage your Google ad settings at myadcenter.google.com.
4. What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone except as described in section 3.
- We do not build a profile of you and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not collect your contacts, photos, files, microphone, camera, health or financial information, or your phone number or email address.
5. Permissions the app asks for
| Android permission | Used for |
|---|---|
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION | Qibla direction, prayer times and today's recommendations, as in section 2. Requested when you use those features; the app works with approximate location. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS | Prayer-time reminders, if you turn them on. |
SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM | Delivering reminders at the exact minute. Without it they may be a little late. |
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED | Restoring reminders after the phone restarts. |
VIBRATE | Haptic feedback on the tasbeeh counter and when the compass points to the Qibla. |
INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Showing the banner ad (section 3). This is the only use of the internet. |
com.google.android.gms.permission.AD_ID, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_AD_ID, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_ATTRIBUTION, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_TOPICS | Declared by the Google Mobile Ads SDK so Google can use the advertising ID and Android's ad services for the banner ad (section 3). The app itself does not read them. |
WAKE_LOCK, FOREGROUND_SERVICE | Declared by Android libraries the app includes, for background work by the ad SDK and reminders. The app does not run a foreground service of its own and does not use location in the background. |
6. How long information is kept, and deleting it
Information saved by the app lives only on your phone. To delete it, clear the app's storage in Android's app settings, or uninstall the app. We hold no copy on any server, so there is nothing for us to delete on our side. Information held by Google for ads is governed by Google's retention practices; you can manage it through the links in section 3.
7. Security
Because we do not collect your information, there is no database of it to protect. Information saved by the app is kept in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read. The ad SDK is provided and secured by Google.
8. Children
Islamic Toolkit is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13 (or under the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the ad service, contact us and we will help you reach Google.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR or US state privacy laws), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict personal information, to object to its use, and to withdraw consent. Since we do not hold personal information about you, there is nothing we can give, correct or delete; you hold all of it on your device. For information handled by Google for ads, you can exercise those rights with Google, as described in section 3. You can also contact us and we will do our best to help, and you may complain to your local data protection authority.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the date above before the change takes effect in an app update. The current version is always at apps.aalisoft.com/islamictoolkit/privacy.
